  • How to Operate a Ratchet Buckle Assembly

Ratchet buckle assemblies come in two pieces: The ratchet buckle with loop strap (A) and the loop strap (B). Both sections have a sewn loop end; these anchor the strap to the tent and stakes respectively. The buckle end of strap (A) will combine with the plain end of strap (B).

Grasp the ratchet buckle and hold so that the handle is facing up. Feed the plain end of strap (B) through the slot in the center bar and wrap back over the top of the bar so that the strap exits from the same side of the buckle it entered from. Pull about a foot and a half of strap through the assembly.

Work the ratchet handle up and down to turn the reel bar, tightening the strap assembly. When your strap is properly tensioned, roll the excess strap toward the buckle and tuck into the buckle handle.

To loosen and remove the strap from the ratchet buckle assembly, pull on the lever in the handle and lift the handle all the way forward; it will lock in this position, leaving no tension on the reel bar. The (B) strap can then be pulled from the buckle.
